Accessibility features in Windows XP

  • Accessibility Options
    • Keyboard:
      • StickyKeys: shift, alt or Windozs by pressing one key at a time
      • FilterKeys: ignore brief or repeated keystrokes, slow repeat rate
    • Sound:
      • SoundSentry (visual warning for system's sound)
      • ShowSounds: display captind for program's speech and sound
    • Display: High Contrast, cursor's blink rate and width
    • MouseKeys: control pointer with numeric keypad
  • Accessibility WIzard:
    • walks you though accessibility features' configuration
    • preset configurations (blind, deaf, keyboard//mouse difficulties)
  • Magnifier: zooms active part of the screen
    • inverse video mode
    • follow mouse cursor, keyboard focus, text editing
    • up to 9 magnification levels
  • On-Screen Keyboard
    • Typing modes to select: click, hover, joystick
  • Narrator
    • text-to-speech
    • new windows, menus, shortcut menus, events, types characters
    • mouse pointer can follow active item on the screen
    • voice: speed, volume and pitch can be tuned
    • only in english
    • positionned as basic tool with minimum level of functionnalities
  • Tablet PC input panel:
    • Tablet pen
      • Can be used on tablet computers
      • writing pad
      • character pad (one character at a time)
      • gestures for space, backspace, enter and tab
    • Speech
      • dictate to enter text
      • voice command: switching between programs, using program menus
      • only in english
